FPCR entered an architectural competition in 2016 which requested concept designs for a series of iconic beach huts, in Eastbourne, Sussex. FPCRs concept was to create a 3D printed and CNC cut beach hut, using a combination of high tech precision engineered plywood, 3D printed cladding and community involvement. The proposal was to create the simple form of the hut as a recognisable traditional beach hut from the beach, where the glass facade and overhung entrance provide shade. However from the promenade, the hut would morph into a more skewed shape and appear as a simple white net form, thrown out to sea. The proposed 3D printed joints would combine with traditional hessian scrim and rope to reflect Eastbourne’s fishing heritage.
